Space Weather - Monitoring the Ionosphere with GPS
Space weather? We simply never thought about storms on the sun or the upper ionosphere being weather you could get data on reliably, but you can. Conditions on the Sun and in the solar wind, magnetosphere, and the ionosphere can also affect our lives through the effects they have on satellites, communications, navigation, and power systems. Scientists are now studying space weather with a wide range of tools to try to learn more about the physical and chemical processes taking place in the upper atmosphere and beyond. One of these tools is GPS.
Click on through for a full article on this amazing area of weather we had no idea about.

Midland 74-250C SAME Handheld Weather Alert Radio
I'm not sure I need a handheld weather alert radio all the time, but for the hikes I used to take on various trails in NH, or long stays out in the boat fishing on bad weather days - I can see it. You can stay informed of current local weather and hazard conditions whether when you're camping, hiking, hunting, or just hanging around the house with this handheld Midland weather alert radio. Capable of receiving seven National Oceanic & Atmospheric Association (NOAA) channels--each of which receives emergency advisories on tornadoes, floods, severe thunderstorms, civil danger warnings, and more--the 74-250C is a must for people who live in high-risk weather areas, or for people who just want a little extra protection when hitting the outdoors. Plus, the seven NOAA channels offer coverage for roughly 93 percent of the U.S., so most residents are well covered regardless of where they live.
