Spaceweather PHONE - Have It Call You to See Weather Events

How cools is this? has a service that will call you with astronomy alerts via your phone.

Spaceweather PHONE is an astronomy alert service from the creators of Sign up for our service --for yourself or as a gift for someone else-- and we'll phone you when things are happening in the sky.

When auroras appear over your hometown, your phone will ring. When the space station is about to fly over your back yard, your phone will ring. When planets align ... you get the idea. The voice you hear will be Dr. Tony Phillips telling you what to look for and when.

Wii-like Weather and News on PS3

At Sony's recent press conference, SCE president Kaz Hirai revealed new software called "Life With PlayStation,". It's a virtual globe that can be explored to reveal weather and news. We're excited to see Sony go the more realistic route. Though we like our Wii weather - it's a bit cartoony.

Review: WeatherTime NOAA Weather Alert Radios with SAME Technology

PCR507B.jpg RN507-F.gif

Honeywell was generous enough to send us both the PCR507W and RN507W NOAA alert weather radios to test. Both feature the NOAA weather alert radio functionality, and both have an atomically set clock. We found both models really easy to use, but in the end liked having the ability to project the time and clock in our bedroom. Since you can use the weather radio plugged in or on battery power, both models can replace your radio in the garage, camp, or in the kitchen with ease. We actually brought the non-projection model with us bass fishing and got a weather alert concerning thunderstorms that made the day a little less wet.

We really like the ability to have it scan the weather band, and then with the touch of a button we can listen to the forecast anytime we want. The size of both models is also dead on, and we didn't find carrying them around or having them in any of the locations we tested - kitchen, boat, and bedroom for them to be too large or too small.

We also liked the feature of what weather alerts we want to be alerted to. You can easily cycle through various alert types and turn them on and off.

Key features of both models include:

  • Automatically sets to US Atomic clock
  • Day displays in English, Spanish and French
  • 12 hour time format
  • Light sensor detects low light conditions and lights up LCD display
  • NOAA with SAME technology
  • Public Alert Certified device
  • Indoor temperature display
  • User-selectable C° or F°
  • FM Radio
  • Enhanced blue backlight
  • AC/DC adapter included
  • Batteries not included:6 AA (main unit)

The Cloud - MIT Creates Pseudo Organic Life Form Made of Carbon Glass Cloud

If you want to make a pseudo organic life form in the shape of a cloud, you're going to need 15,000 individually controlled optical hairs, and lots of patience. The MIT mobile experience lab's latest experiment is The Cloud, a pseudo-organic life form made of carbon glass that perceives humans using hundreds of sensors. There's something strangely familiar, and creepy about the cloud. Perhaps in the future, the MIT lab can develop wind, and other forms of weather that respond to viewers.

Egg Shaped Wireless Weather Forecaster from Oregon Scientific

Take the guesswork out of the weather forecast by consulting the Weather Light - the egg shaped weather forecasting wonder. With just a glance at the Weather Light, you'll have the information you need to plan your day.

The Weather Light (why didn't they just say Weather Egg?) features three illuminated weather forecast icons, Sunny, Cloudy and Rainy, that will give you an accurate weather forecast for the day. A simple wave of your hand changes the display, shifting between the precise Atomic time, indoor and outdoor temperature. You can also set the Weather Light to "auto toggle display" mode, and the information will rotate automatically.
